Open mic sessions at Liminal Gallery enabled a space for voices in the form of spoken word (poetry) and rap to be heard in the community. The themes that emerged at the open mic sessions included those of social justice and community solidarity. The idea for the open mic arose from student requests as a vehicle for expressing their anger and grief after a terrible accident where a truck fell off the bridge killing several people in the Chicano Park, unfortunately it was a tragedy many of them witnessed.
